Home State Bank is asking for donations for children battling cancer.

Tabatha Shahan and Shelby Wiggins are co-organizing the Band-aid Benefit for Blank Children’s Hospital oncology department. Wiggins tells Raccoon Valley Radio the nurses in the oncology department allow children to choose special band-aids after they have their chemotherapy ports de-accessed from their bodies. However, during the summer months, the hospital runs low on any fun character or colorful band-aids for kids. 

Shahan adds that with her daughter Avril who is continuing her own battle of cancer, she saw a Facebook post of one of the other mothers whose daughter prefers character style bandaids. She felt these small solutions are just one way that makes kid cancer treatments more tolerable. 

From now through the end of July, community members are asked to drop off boxes of bandaids, specifically with characters or bright colors, to Home State Bank. Shahan is hoping to deliver over 1,000 boxes of bandaids to the Blank Children’s Hospital oncology department.
