As people are traveling to and from this summer on vacation, there are some things to keep in mind as it relates to health and safety.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says one thing people should keep in mind is the rate of COVID-19 cases in the location they are going to compared to where they live.

“That’s something to pay attention to. If you are going to be traveling to a particular state, it’s not a bad idea to go online and take a look at what’s the rate of COVID in that area and would it be smart to rather than fly there where you are in an airport full of a lot people, or maybe you want to drive there, I know the price of gas is awful but that’s something to consider.”

Cochran advises people to think about their summer travel typically including a higher rate of traffic-related accidents. Cochran says it’s smart to think about your current health when planning vacations.

“It’s always a smart idea to just think about what is my current health status as far being physically able to do some of these things and is that a great idea for me or maybe not.”

Cochran reminds everyone to be responsible when on vacation when consuming alcohol.
