Both the West Central Valley summer sports teams had a good end to the week last week. The baseball team headed up to Perry to take on the Bluejays on Friday, and were able to come out victorious. The Wildcats scored three runs in the 1st inning, and three runs in the 5th inning, to win the game 6-0.

The softball team traveled to Melcher-Dallas for the Coal Miners Classic, and after some hard work, came home with some hardware. In the first game of the day, the Wildcats faced off against the Tri-County Trojans, and built a great lead to come out with a 15-2 victory. In the second game of the day, they faced off against the Melcher-Dallas Saints, who kept things closer, only allowing the Wildcats to win with a 3-1 total score.

The Wildcats also had four players named to the Coal Miner’s Tournament All-Tournament Team. These players were;

8th grader Lillian Gilbert, who had 2 base hits and a double on the day, along with 2 runs batted in, scoring 3 runs of her own, and having an overall batting percentage of .714.

8th grader Macy Long, who had 3 base hits, 3 runs batted in, 2 scored runs of her own and an overall batting percentage of .714.

Sophomore Ella Sand, who had an overall batting percentage of .667, going 4 for 7 with 4 base hits, 2 runs batted in, and 2 scored runs of her own, and was 3 for 3 on base steals.

And sophomore Madison Kent, who was pitching in the game against Melcher-Dallas. While facing 24 batters, she only allowed one earned run, had 5 strikeouts, and ended with an earned run average of 1.167.
