Friday was the annual Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Golf Tournament at the Jefferson Community Golf Course.
Co-organizer Jill Morton says there were 18 teams this year and the first place team was Danielson Auto. Co-organizer Jackie Cunningham says other new additions to the annual Jefferson Matters fundraiser included a traveling trophy for the 1st place team.
“We went to Royal (Jewelers) here in Jefferson. So (owner) Steve (Schwaller) was awesome and worked with us. We said we really wanted it to be big and extra and when I say ‘extra’ this trophy is like three-tiers, and it’s got a topper, and a golf ball, and swinging things, and shiny, and gold. That will travel each year and so the team and players will be inscribed on there.”
Cunningham points out another new aspect was a “ball drop.” Several purchased golf balls were dropped from a certain height and the closest ball to the hole would win a cash prize, with one half going to the winner and the other half to be donated to the Jefferson Fire Department.
“We thought that this ball drop was a fun way to kind of get non-golfers involved in something fun around the tournament, and kind of just create more excitement.”
The winner of the ball drop was John Hupp, who received $397 and the fire department got $398. Morton thanks all of the sponsors and those who participated in the golf tournament this year.
