As the select House Committee continues its public hearings into the January 6, 2021 attacks on the U.S. Capitol building, one lawmaker is sharing his comments.
US Senator Charles Grasley believes some of what the committee is doing could be viewed as political theater.
“It’s not like most congressional hearings are held, you are able to cross-exam people. There’s nobody here to cross-exam any of the witnesses. It tends to be scripted prime time and we know it was produced by television executives. You wonder what they’re up to when they’re going to issue their report just before the (November) elections.”
Grassley adds the way these hearings are conducted also raises questions about the seriousness and credibility of the hearings, beyond the political advantage for the Democrats.
