Greene County FFA does well at a few competitions.
Three FFA’ers brought home a fifth place finish at the Iowa FFA Food Science Contest that was held at Iowa State University on June 15th. Of the 70 individuals that participated from 19 different chapters, Greene County’s Kaitlin Fields, Grace Curtis and Emma Halterman had to demonstrate skills with problem solving in dealing with consumer concerns, food safety and sanitation, aroma identification, taste testing and product differences. Additionally Curtis earned sixth place as an individual.
Four FFA’ers earned a silver award at the Iowa FFA Horse Career Development Event at Kirkwood Community College on June 14th. Kaitlin Fields, Emma Halterman, Allison Fields, and Madison Higgins were among the 118 individuals from 38 FFA chapters to compete. The contest allows students to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in Equine Science. They were evaluated on halter and performance classes, along with answering questions and giving oral reasons to explain their placings.
