The Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, Adel Rotary, representatives from T-Mobile and other community representatives joined at the Pedal Plaza in Adel Thursday to celebrate the recent award of a grant.
The Chamber was one of the recipients T-Mobile Hometown Grant in the amount of $41,566 to help with planned renovations to the Pedal Plaza in Adel, which will later be renamed Adel Rotary Plaza. Head of the Adel Partners Trail Committee Rebecca Hillmer says it feels good to have help with revitalizing the plaza which has a $70,000 price tag for phase one of the project on an area visitors find important.
“We know just from personal experience seeing people stopping here on the trail. They like to read the memo board, they like to read the little information kiosk and sometimes we’ve had the big yellow chair sitting here and kids like to sit and play. So, it’s a nice stopping place.”
Secretary of the Adel Rotary Shirley McAdon tells Raccoon Valley Radio some of the plans include adding more shade to the plaza, items that can be struck to create music among other improvements.
Adel Mayor Jim Peters says the Pedal Plaza currently gives bicyclists a place to rest as they are traveling along the Raccoon River Valley Trail and after the improvements are complete it will be an even better amenity.
“It’s going to be a great amenity and I know the bikers they will measure it because they bike all over the place and hopefully it’ll end up high on their list on ‘Hey Adel’s a great place, very welcoming and when we go there we will stop at the plaza.”
The Adel Chamber is working alongside the Adel Rotary Club and also has help from the Dallas County Foundation and other project partners. The hopes are for the work to begin shortly on the improvements at the Pedal Plaza.
