A solar project near Grand Junction will have a public informational meeting next week.

Grand Junction Solar, part of NationalGrid Renewables, in conjunction with the Iowa Utilities Board is hosting a public meeting to discuss the proposed 100-megawatt solar project, along with an associated up to 50-megawatt battery energy storage system.

The location of the project is Junction Township with over 1,100 acres to be used to generate 100-megawatts of solar energy through panels. Project Developer Sidney Beck told the Greene County Development Corporation Board earlier this year that none of the solar energy produced by the panels would remain in Greene County, but be shipped to other parts of the country. The anticipated start of construction is next fall, with operations to begin in December of 2024.

The public informational meeting will cover the location of the facility, the physical appearance and location of major structure, property rights that Grand Junction will seek, general procedures that will be followed by negotiations, and payments for any remaining easements to landowners.

The meeting will be at 5:30pm on Monday, June 27th at the Grand Junction Community Center. The meeting is free and open to the public.
