As the severe weather season continues there are some important reminders for being weather aware.

Dallas County Emergency Management Specialist Josh Heward says if people are going to be out and about during the day they should check the weather forecast while also keeping an eye on the sky.

“Look for signs of impeding storms, those towering clouds, the darkening skies, lightning or increased winds. When thunderstorms threaten you want to get inside of a structure. If you can’t, you can use a vehicle but make sure that it is not a convertible, that it does have that closed top.”

Heward tells Raccoon Valley Radio if you are caught outside during severe weather you should stay away from trees as well as telephone poles. Heward says to stay up to date with weather in your area you can look to Dallas County Emergency Management through their Facebook page or website. You can also text DALLASIA to 672-83 to receive alerts.

Also, the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team will provide live coverage any time there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning in Dallas, Guthrie or Greene counties until the severe weather has moved out of the listening area or has dropped below severe levels.
