An Iowa US Representative is pushing for congress to put common sense gun control into law.

Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne says that Red Flag Laws are a  sensible action to stop acts of mass shootings which would allow people or police to petition a state court to temporarily remove firearms from a person that is deemed to be a danger to others or themselves.

“I mean my goodness these shootings absolutely need to end. We can’t live in a world where our kids are too afraid to go out, to go to school, to go see a movie or even go to church.”

She says there is legislation where red flag measures could pass the US Senate. Axne describes the senate’s gun safety framework.

To keep the weapons out of the hands of folks who the court has deemed are a danger to themselves or others. So I think if that language, which is bipartisan, you know, gets to the heart of it, which is whom the court has determined are a danger to themselves or others, is a reasonable expectation for this country.”

Critics of Red Flag Laws say that taking away guns from people that haven’t committed a crime is unconstitutional.
