Greene County’s high school softball team hosted South Hamilton (Jewell) last night after much effort to get the diamond playable following heavy rains early Wednesday AM. Emma Hoyle tossed a shut out, the defense had no errors, and the Rams won 6-0 to improve to 6-9 overall and 4-6 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. SH fell to 7-9, 2-7.
Depending on how a ground ball off the glove of the third basemen was scored, Hoyle had a no-hitter or a one-hitter. She fanned nine and walked six. Freshman Chanlyn Cunningham entered the game with three runs batted n on the season, but she drove in three on Wednesday night alone with a two-run double and a ground out. Emma Stream knocked in the first run in the opening frame with a two-out single. Olivia Shannon and Alexa Peters each had a pair of hits. The Rams host Ogden on Friday night in non-conference play.
The Rams weren’t able to get Allensworth Field playable last night vs. SH, but Greene County will be hosting Roland-Story (Story City) in a baseball twin bill in Jefferson today. Game one is at 5:15 p.m. with game two to follow. The second game will be broadcast on KG98 with projected air time around 7:30 p.m.
