Greene County head wrestling coach Zach Beekman talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the recent State Dual Meet Tournament venue change announced by the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Coralville will be the new site for at least the next three years and the weekend of Feb. 4, 2023 is the date. That coincides with the first Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament sanctioned by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Two tournaments, one site, same weekend. The coach said he’s in favor of the move and wrestling fans will get to see many of the top female individuals and top male teams at the same location.
Beekman also commented on Ram senior-to-be Kale Petersen, who is injured right now, but was named to the Iowa team in Tulsa, OK this weekend at USA Wrestling’s National Dual Tournament. “Earning that spot is something that, even though he’s battling an injury right now, you can’t take that away from him. It’s pretty neat recognition. We just hope he’s going to take some time so he gets rested up well, so that he’s ready for the rest of his offseason schedule.” Coach Beekman said he’s looking forward to having Petersen and another senior-to-be McKinley Robbins, in the room for a full 2022-23 season.
