Greene Co Sheriff Jack Williams
As the heat wave continues in Iowa, everyone needs to remain vigilant to stay safe from the hot outdoor temperatures.
Acting Greene County Emergency Management Coordinator Jack Williams offers these reminders as preventative measures to keep yourself protected from the heat.
“Just make sure you are using sunblock and drinking plenty of fluids to make sure you are staying hydrated. If you start to feel dizzy or quit sweating go to a shaded or cooler place. If you get to where you’re feeling sick you need to probably look at putting a cold bottle of water or an ice pack in your armpit area that’ll help cool your body down faster.”
Williams notes if these precautions are taken into consideration, your body could succumb to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which medical attention should be sought if that happens. He also recommends drinking water or a sports drink instead of energy drinks because energy drinks have lots of caffeine which dehydrates your body faster.
