The 22nd Annual Greene County Farmers Market will kick-off tomorrow.

The farmers markets will be held every Tuesday from June 14th-September 20th from 4-6pm rain or shine. The Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County have taken over coordinating the market and they’ve moved it to a new location from where it was previously held on the east side of the Greene County Courthouse. Organizer Jean Walker describes where the markets will be this year.

“We’re going to be on Chestnut (Street) just west of our fence in the gardens. We’re going to close off Lincoln Way to that alleyway, as of now, just south of the gardens.”

Walker points out the section of road will be closed around 3pm for the vendors to set up until after the weekly markets are done around 6pm. The daily fees for vendors are $20 for adults and $5 for kids, while an annual fee to be a vendor is $120 and an additional fee will be charged if a vendor needs their vehicle in their space. Walker welcomes anyone who wants to be a vendor throughout the market season.

“They can come in anytime because the growing season (to start with) they may not have products (yet). So they can pop in anytime and get a hold of me, and we’ll get them signed up.”

Additionally, any non-profit organization that wants to serve a fundraising meal will not be charged a fee to do so, but to contact Walker to get on the schedule. Contact Walker at 515-370-1905 for more information.
