Junior Dakota Lake has some eye-popping pitching numbers for the unbeaten Saydel Eagles and she added to them with a 5-0 victory in Jefferson over Greene County on Friday night in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball. The Eagles improved to 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the league with Lake fanning 13 Rams on Friday and 29 in the two times the teams have met this season. The Rams did not have a ball travel as fall as the outfield grass and Lake did not walk anyone or hit any Ram with a pitch.
Greene County had infield singles from left-handed slap-hitters Chanlyn Cunningham, a freshman, and junior Alexa Peters. The only other base runner for Greene County came on a passed ball third strike by the catcher which allowed speedster Olivia Shannon to reach first.
Junior Emma Hoyle took the pitching loss. In her seven innings, she allowed only four hits, two of which were line drives off the gloves of the two corner infielders. Control was an issue at times with with walks and one batter hits by a pitch. Saydel drew leadoff walks in each of the first three innings and they scored once in the first and three times in the third. The hit batter took place in the fourth when they scored their final run. Hoyle faced just two batters in the last three innings combined. Greene County has still won four of its last six overall and is 5-8 on the season and 3-5 in conference. Saydel is the clear HOIAC leader and the Rams are the only team to have played the Eagles twice.
