Walt Anderson Field in Rippey will see lots of baseball this weekend.
Director of Media Relations for the Rippey Baseball Commission Bruce Thome says the weekend starts with a high school baseball game between Kingsley-Pierson and Ogden tomorrow afternoon and the night-capper is with the summer collegiate baseball team of the Des Moines Prospects hosting Sedalia from Missouri at 7pm. Thome says the Prospects are waiting for their new park to be built in Grimes and have been calling Memorial Park in Boone home for the last two years.
Then on Sunday, Thome says there will be a doubleheader with the Mid-Iowa Baseball League 18+ from Ames with the Oaks and the Twisters at 1 and 4pm. Thome points out the MIBL is part of the Men’s Senior Baseball League of America.
“They play in these leagues for the love of the game (of baseball) because a lot of times when you’re done in high school or college and they don’t go play professional, you don’t have to give the game up, you can keep playing. Like I said before there were some guys in their 70s and 80s that played. We say guys baseball, it’s a lifetime sport, as long as you can still walk.”
Thome adds there are 14 games that they’ve scheduled with the MIBL this year in Rippey. Concessions will be available for purchase and Thome invites everyone to come and watch baseball in Rippey this weekend.
