In the wake of a shooting incident that left Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn with a gunshot wound in the leg, the community came together in support of the police department.

Community member Tiffany Olejniczak wanted to organize a way for the community to show support for Chief Vaughn and the police department along with raising funds to support the Perry Peace Officers Association. Olejniczak explains they sold stickers for $5 and yard signs for $20 and raised a total of $2,718.50.

“I appreciate everyone who bought a sign, bought a sticker or who just donated because we did just receive donations and I think that’s one of the great things about living in a small community and living in Perry is that people do rally and support people and places within our community.”

Olejniczak tells Raccoon Valley Radio there is a continued opportunity for fundraising as Chief Vaughn says the money will be used to begin upgrades on equipment for the officers.

“When I took the funds to Chief Vaughn he talked about specifically the purchase of upgrading their body cameras and those obviously are very costly. So, if people wanted to make a donation they could do that by sending or dropping off at the Perry Police Department. Checks specifically should be written to the Perry Peace Officers Association.”

Olejniczak says it was a great community collaboration and she is glad that Chief Vaughn is recovering from his injury.
