As the legislative session recently ended, a big priority was achieved for lawmakers advocating for tax reform.
Representative of House District 20 Ray Sorensen praises Governor Kim Reynolds for leading the effort to provide tax relief for Iowans. He explains that Iowa went from the sixth highest income taxed state to the fourth lowest with a 3.9-percent flat tax rate while eliminating retirement income and reforming the corporate tax rate, down to 5.5-percent. Sorensen says that getting tax reform passed early in the session set the tone.
“It will allow Iowans to keep more of their own money in their pockets, again the government doesn’t have money, we collect it, so Iowans are better at spending their own money than the government is, is always a good thing.”
According to the Office of The Governor, this individual tax reform is projected to save Iowa taxpayers more than $1.67 billion in tax year 2026.
