After a tense and hard fought game yesterday, the season came to a close for the West Central Valley Wildcats boys soccer team. After qualifying for their fourth ever state tournament appearance, the Wildcats took on the Beckman Catholic Trailblazers yesterday, and played a very good game.
The first period saw non-stop action around the center field line for most of the 40 minutes, and sophomore Nate Gerling had some amazing saves, before the Trailblazers got extremely lucky, and scored with just 40 seconds left before the break.
When play resumed, the Wildcats played hard and fast, and were able to tie the game after about 10 minutes into the second period, when sophomore Kamron Kunkle was able to find his way in with some help, and make the goal. The pace stayed fast, as both teams worked to get into a position to make another goal, before the Trailblazers were able to boot the ball in for their second goal, and take the lead once more. The Wildcats surged late to try and tie the game again in hopes of some overtime play, but were unable to make the ball connect with the net. The Wildcats finished their impressive season with a 2-1 loss.
The team and coaches did an impressive job all season showing other teams what that Wildcat spirit is all about. Congratulations to the team and coaching staff on making this season one to remember.
