Van Meter improved to 9-0 on the baseball diamond this season by beating Greene County in non-conference play at Allensworth Field in Jefferson on Tuesday night. The final was 21-5 in four innings by the 15-run rule and the victory was the 24th in a row for the Bulldogs, dating back to last season when they won the Class 2A State Championship. Coach Matt Paulsen’s Rams fell to 2-3.
Greene County used four pitchers who combined to walk 12 batters and hit four others with pitches. VM had 10 hits including three home runs. Ganon Archer had eight runs batted in on a pair of three run homers, his fourth and fifth of the season, an RBI single and a SAC fly. Reese Moore also hit a three-run homer. Blake Hamann started and took the pitching loss and Justin Stream, Gabe Ebersole, and Trey Schilling pitched in relief. Freshman Cole Moore was the winning pitcher. VM had five runs in the first, 10 in the second, five in the third and one in the fourth.
The Rams had four hits with Bryce Stalder getting a three-run triple and an RBI single. Gabe Ebersole tripled and Max Riley was on base three times with a single and two walks. The Rams scored once in the first inning and four times in the second.
Greene County plays baseball vs. PCM in Prairie City tonight while the Rams play softball in Monroe tonight, also vs. PCM.
