The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday.
During open forum, County Attorney Thomas Laehn discussed the re-codification of the county’s ordinances. Laehn reminded the Board that this is a good process to eliminate expired or duplicate ordinances and standardize the ordinance format moving forward. The Board will consider re-codifying its ordinances at a future meeting.
Bell Tower Community Foundation Board member Peg Raney told the Supervisors that they are moving forward with weekly live concerts on the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower, in lieu of having enough Mastreos to play live music on a daily basis. They are also looking to record the Maestros songs to add to its digitized categories of music.
The Board then approved an agreement with Greene County Medical Center Public Health and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office to provide a public health nurse to conduct medical checks for the inmates as a cost saving measure, rather than always transporting individuals to the medical center. Additionally, the Board approved an agreement with ISG for $17,000 for architectural and bond referendum services for a new county jail. They also acted as the drainage district trustees to approve an amendment to the drainage district assessment schedule as presented.
The Supervisors heard an update about installing a severe weather siren at Spring Lake Park. Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann worked with Sheriff Jack Williams and Unplugged Wireless to have a $21,041 siren to be installed next to the lakeside shelter house at the park, due to the increased population of the summer months at the park and increased public safety against severe weather. However, the Board tabled its decision, pending funding to be secured because it was an unplanned expense for conservation.
Finally, the Board discussed HVAC and restroom renovations to the courthouse. Supervisor Dawn Rudolph expressed her disappointment with the estimated cost of $3.3 million to install an HVAC system and renovate all restrooms in the courthouse. Following the discussion, the Board decided to make a list of priorities with the available funding they have, specifically from the American Rescue Plan Act, before proceeding with the project.
