If you haven’t driven south on Highway 4 in Jefferson and looked across the street from the Casey’s General Store, there is new artwork on display.
Greene County High School art teacher Sarah Stott says her art students painted a mural of different breeds of chickens on the northside of an old chicken hatchery that is owned by Dean Sayre. Stott tells Raccoon Valley Radio the chickens have appealing and surprising expressions to draw someone’s eye and make them laugh.
Stott says she likes it when her students can paint murals around Jefferson when no one is expecting it and it allows the students to leave their mark in the community and it’s also one of her goals to give back and beautify the community. She points out the students have been working on the mural for two weeks, scraping off the old paint and prepping the side of the building before painting the mural. Stott is proud of the work her students did and it showcases their painting skills.
Stott adds the paint and other supplies were purchased through the art club and art department and she invites anyone who would like to donate funds to continue these types of projects, they may do so by contacting her or the high school.
