Firing squads from Jefferson VFW and American Legion

Over 100 people attended the Memorial Day service at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery Monday.

Jim Andrew with the Jefferson American Legion Post #11 served as the emcee and opened the ceremony with Abundant Life Ministries Pastor Isaak Wangler with the invocation. Then the Jefferson Fire Department raised the American and Medal of Honor flags directly south of each of the military branches’ flags.

The Greene County High School Band then performed the National Anthem, followed by the Armed Forces March, in which each branch of the military’s song was played.  Fifth grader Ava Hinote recited her winning essay from the Flag Essay Contest, followed by Steve Fisher, an Army veteran and life-long Greene County resident, delivered the keynote speech and he reminisced about two fellow military veterans, one that passed away from complications of Agent Orange in the Vietnam War and another during the war.
