The pool season is almost here for Jefferson residents.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Denny Hammen says they are tentatively planning to open the pool on Thursday, which is later than in past years and he explains why there’s that delay.

“The high school students are not out (of school yet), so that’s why we’re looking at a little bit later start because majority of our lifeguards are still in high school obviously. We need to work around their school schedules as well.”

When the pool does officially open for the season, times will include adult/senior swim from 11:30am-1pm, general swim hours from 1-5pm and adult/family swim from 5-8pm. Hammen is excited to add more hours to the pool because they were fortunate in the number of lifeguards they’ve hired this year.

“With the numbers that we had apply, we’re going to be in good shape throughout the rest of this summer. I think we’re right at 20 guards that applied, many of them new which is a good sign. I’ve got a lot of young people now that this is a great first job for them and it’s always nice to get them trained because then hopefully they’ll be back that second year and you continue to add to your numbers

There are different types of pool passes available for purchase, including a child pass for $65, an adult pass for $80, a senior pass for $55 and a family pass for $135. Additionally, the daily rates are $6 for adults, $5 for children and those two and younger are free.
