An informational event is coming up soon in Jefferson to help military veterans plan for the end.

Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl says the End of Life Planning Event will take place on Wednesday, June 1st from 1:30-3:30pm at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio this free event is for any area military veterans to prepare for their end of life. There will be representatives from the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, along with lawyers and nursing home staff.

Bierl points out it’s never too early to plan for the end.

“(I) recently experienced a fellow (military) retiree from Shelby County, he was my age (and passed away). You can always think in your mind, ‘Hey, I’ve got some time to think about this and plan for it.’ But you just never know. Come on by (Clover Hall), ask the questions, make it easier on your spouse and/or yourself. Having that done will alleviate a lot of pressure for everyone who’s involved.”

Wednesday’s event is free and open to all veterans and their families.
