Greene County and Des Moines Christian School met in a Class 1A Substate 7 semifinal on Monday night at DMC in Urbandale. With a trip to tomorrow nights’ Substate final on the line, the Lions won by a 3-1 score to improve to 11-4 while the Rams end at 10-5.
Gesser Aguilar scored his team leading 19th goal for the Rams less than five minutes into the contest, but that was the only time the Rams found the net. DMC tied the contest at 1-1 with 7:28 to play in the first half, then put it away with a pair of second half goals. Freshman Grant Dunn scored numbers 15 and 16 and junior Maxximus Miller put up his 18th.
Ram head coach Carl Behne’s team has dealt with injuries and other issues all season, but still won twice as many games as they lost. In the four seasons of Greene County boys’ soccer, the team has won at least one postseason contest and have had winning seasons every year under the direction of Behne and assistant coach Chad Black.
