As the June Primary Election draws closer, there is one contested local race in Greene County, as three Republicans are vying for the nomination for the District 3 Supervisor seat.
Cassie George is a Galena, Illinois native and graduated from North Central College with business and marketing degrees, she then moved to Iowa. She works at a marketing firm in Johnston as the merchandise manager. George lives with her husband and two young children on an acreage north of Bayard. She also serves on the Iowa Quarterhorse Association Board and has a small epoxy flooring business.
A major project that is currently going on in Greene County is the Greene County Diversity Project, where Greene County Development Corporation is trying to get the Latino community to fulfill the over 200 available jobs in the county, while also trying to entice those individuals to live in the community. George shares her thoughts on that project.
“I believe the Greene County Diversity Project is a wonderful idea and I know we have a high demand for employment in the area, especially with my husband and I having a small business, we understand the difficulty of finding employees. But I would also like to see equal opportunities for everyone in our communities.”
George talks about why she is running for Greene County Supervisor.
“I’m running for the Greene County Supervisor position to become more involved in the communities, along with the growth of our county. Having grown up in agriculture and business-minded family, it’s helped me to become very diverse, along with knowing the value of everyone working together. Being your County Supervisor will provide me the opportunity to be a part of the growth in our community and that’s something I would love to be a part of.”
George is running against challengers James Hedges and Dan Benitz for the Republican nomination for the Greene County Supervisor District 3 seat in the June 7th Primary Election.
