The warmer months bring good times for fishing and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has some reminders for people before they head out.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Dustin Eighmy says before people head out to fish they need to remember to get a fishing license as they expire every year but they need to be renewed if you plan to fish.
“You can buy a one day fishing license here in Iowa, you can buy a seven day fishing license and you can also buy the annual license which is good for that annual year which expires January 10th but you can buy those typically at any sporting goods store.”
Eighmy tells Raccoon Valley Radio there is also another option for people wanting to get a fishing license through the Go Outdoors Iowa application that can be downloaded for free onto your smartphone.
“Download that on your phone and you can purchase your license directly on that phone. The cool thing about that is when you get checked by a DNR officer, or a sheriff or a trooper, anyone that’s certified you can just show them the app on your phone that you purchased a license and they can check the dates on that and that’s good as well.”
