It’s the debut contest of the 2022 high school softball season for the Greene County Rams in Des Moines at Saydel High School tonight. Likewise, the Ram baseball team plays at Saydel this evening in what are the first Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games of the season.
Coach Tom Kennedy would like to see the Rams return to having more wins than losses in a season with a mostly veteran lineup. Greene County hasn’t had a winning softball season since before any of the current players were in high school.
Coach Matt Paulsen’s baseball Rams opened the season last week vs. a pair of Class 3A non-conference opponents. Greene County lost at Denison to Denison-Schleswig, and won at home in nine innings vs. Carroll. With the track & field season over, the Rams are slated to get closer to full strength, but with the boys’ soccer team playing in the postseason tonight, the baseball players who also play soccer, will likely be at Des Moines Christian tonight for a Substate semifinal.
