There are several Memorial Day ceremonies coming up in Greene County.

At 8am on Memorial Day there will be a mass service at St. Patrick Historical Church in rural Churdan, followed by a military service at the church’s cemetery. Then from 8am-noon will be coffee and rolls, sponsored by the Churdan American Legion Auxiliary at the American Legion Hall in Churdan. Finally, at 9:30am there will be a military service at the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan, with the Town and Country Band performing.

A ceremony will take place at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at 9:30am on Memorial Day. That event includes a firing squad from the Jefferson VFW and American Legion as a “Salute to the Fallen Heroes” while Taps is played. The program will end with a grave blessing.

The Jefferson City Cemetery ceremony begins at 10:45am on Memorial Day. The program includes an invocation, raising of the American and Medal of Honor flags, along with a couple of songs performed by the Greene County High School band, and Flag Essay contest winner Ava Hinote will recite her essay. Additionally, Steve Fisher will be the guest speaker, there will be a firing squad and Taps will be performed.
