There is a fun event taking place today that will look to help celebrate 175 years of Adel with Adel Founders Day.
Adel Founders Day will be taking place beginning at 1 p.m. today with a gathering followed by a panoramic picture that will be taken at 1:30 p.m. at 9th and Main Street. Adel City Council Member Shirley McAdon says the first panoramic picture was taken in 1972.
“You just gotta be in this picture. It’s super fun just to gather and know that this is a historic event that we are recreating and in 25 years we will do it again. It’s going to be super fun just to get to meet each other, our new residents, our ones that have been here a long time, a little social time with our ice cream social and we have a couple of tours planned.”
The panoramic picture will be followed by cake and ice cream at the Raccoon Valley Bank Stage and Pavillion with a welcome from Adel Mayor Jim Peters and then there will be a historic walk of Adel and a tour of the Adel Cemetery. McAdon says this Founders Day celebration is just one piece of celebrating 175 years of Adel this year which will also include a time capsule later this year among other activities.
“We are going to celebrate throughout the year, we will follow Founders Day with activities and a program at Sweet Corn Festival. The parade is going to have a theme this year, generally there isn’t one, but because Adel’s 175th birthday is 2022 it will have a birthday theme and so we are inviting everybody to help celebrate.”
