The Jefferson City Council recently approved a project that will help serve a need in the community.
The Council approved at their regular meeting earlier this month to digitize the city cemetery information with Cemetery Information Management Systems (CIMS) not to exceed $40,000. City Administrator Mike Palmer says this has been an ongoing project that the Council approved a few years ago with a different company that they had issues with technical support. Palmer points out with CIMS they are able to do more things online with the data from the city cemetery.
“The good thing about this software that we’re really looking forward to is we can get it online and people can access information on relatives or do searches, we’re really excited about that. Eventually, we hope that funeral directors can actually go online and access what we have available for (burial) lots.”
There is no timetable of when this project will be completed. The funds for the project are from the allocated amount that the city receives from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation.
