A major highway project will be starting up soon in Guthrie County.
District Planner for the Iowa Department of Transportation Scott Suhr says they are moving forward with a project that would provide maintenance on Iowa Highway 25 for a stretch of 1.76 miles of road from Pecan to Nice Avenue. Suhr states that this highway’s pavement is 91 years old.
“The road that goes between Nice Avenue and Pecan Avenue is in pretty poor shape and gets a lot of truck traffic and it’s not helped the road in any way so the road is beyond a pretty much an overlay so we’re looking at removing the entire pavement.”
Suhr says they will put new concrete pavement down when the project starts in June. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there will be a detour while the construction is taking place.
“The detour will be utilizing Interstate 80 and the Casey exit to go from 25 north to south.”
Suhr says that this project will take two to three months to complete and the new concrete repaving will cost over $3 million using state and federal funds. Suhr says that this project was scheduled for 2023 but moved up with additional federal funding.
