The Greene County Development Corporation Board met Tuesday in regular session.
The meeting started with an update following the seven town hall meetings on the Greene County Diversity Project. Steering Committee Chair Chuck Offenburger reported there were about 200 total people that attended the meetings. He said they are going back to the employers to help navigate potential Latino employees to the jobs they want, along with advertising for the over 200 available jobs. Offenburger added there will be four subcommittees this summer to further educate the public and plan for Latinos to come to Greene County, including cultural integration, culture and the arts, interfaith activities and soccer events and facilities.
Then during reports, Jefferson Matters Executive Director Beth Vander Wilt announced the first business recipient of the Jefferson Wants You campaign was Kristin Lang with Warm Wishes, which will be located at the former Heartland Bank building at 200 East State Street in Jefferson. She also noted that a Main Street Iowa representative visited with several downtown businesses and will create exterior designs for free for those businesses to use if they want to improve their facades.
Wild Rose Jefferson General Manager Travis Dvorak said the casino made $3.3 million in revenue last month, which was the fourth best month they’ve ever had. He added the three Wild Rose locations helped makeup ⅓ of the best performing sportsbooks in the state, mostly due to DraftKings.
GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton said RVP~1875 hosted the regular meeting of Western Iowa Advantage in which attendees said it was the best presentation they had ever been to. He also said that quarterly meetings for their GCDC Board will be conducted in person and the others will be provided remotely.
