As families prepare to celebrate with graduation parties it’s important to remember food safety while celebrating those accomplishments.
Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says the problem that can come up with a graduation party is that the food tends to be left out. Cochran says foods with mayonnaise or dips that contain sour cream need to remain chilled and gives tips on how to manage those types of foods.
“One strategy is to put out smaller serving bowls and then replace them as needed rather than putting out your whole big batch at one time and letting it sit out for the duration of your party. Perhaps most importantly be sure that anyone preparing and serving food washes their hands frequently.”
Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio it’s also important to be sure to cook food to the temperature if your get together or the party will be having grilling.
“If your party includes grilling, don’t rush that cooking process. Be sure all the meats, poultry and fish that you grill are completely cooked.”
Cochran says disease can be spread if someone touches uncooked meat with their hands or utensils and then touches other foods or plates.
