With a leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court which outlined the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade, Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman shares his thoughts on the matter.

Nordman says there is information available outlining that the landmark women’s abortion rights decision could potentially be overturned. Nordman says one thing people should be concerned about is where the leak came from.

“It’s very sad and very dangerous that somebody would, for the first time in the court’s history, leak a decision before it was made. I hope that this investigation that they are currently undergoing finds the leaker and that leaker is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law because like I said it is a very, very dangerous precedent.”

Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio if Roe v. Wade were to be overturned, the power would then go back to the states. Nordman says lawmakers in Iowa have already passed legislation pertaining to abortion rights in Iowa which states that Iowa’s constitution does not outline rights to an abortion which now needs to pass another general assembly before it’s voted on by Iowans.

“I am pro-life, I am proud to be pro-life. I think it’s very important that we protect life  and so I’m very interested and very eager to begin those conversations.”

The Roe v. Wade decision was made back in 1973 and ruled that the U.S. Constitution protects a pregnant women’s rights to have an abortion without excessive government restriction.
