Greene County sends its girls and boys track & field squads 120 miles southwest to Treynor on Thursday for a Class 2A State Qualifying Meet. According to performances places on the statistical website Varsity Bound, the meet in Treynor is one of the toughest of the eight 2A meets around Iowa.

Examples of the high levels of performers include the shuttle hurdle relay for boys where Greene County has the fifth best time in 2A, but just the third best of the 12 teams at Treynor. On the girls’ side, the 4 x 200 meter relay is in the 2A top 10 at ninth, but has just the third fastest time of the teams at Treynor. Individually, Olivia Shannon is 12th in 2A in the long jump, but she’s only fifth among competitors scheduled at Treynor.

In 2A, the first and second place finishers on Thursday in every event are automatic qualifiers for the May 19-20-21 State Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The field of 24 is filled out by the top eight performances statewide from Thursday’s eight State Qualifying Meets in 2A. As long as an individual or relay places in the top eight on Thursday, they could qualify for State if their performances are good enough.
