The weather in Iowa will be changing rapidly again this week with temperatures that feel like summer. 

National Weather Service Meteorologist Brad Small tells Raccoon Valley Radio this week the outdoor temperatures will be above normal for this time of year, with the highs in the 80s and dew points in the 60s. Small explains this will bring chances of showers and thunderstorms. 

“A few of them could be severe, but it doesn’t look like a really strong period for severe weather, more just like a summertime period with a general showers and thunderstorms possible. Well, it won’t rain the whole time, but in and out every few days.”

He says at the moment it looks like Iowa has missed the spring-like temperatures. 

“The eight to 14 day outlook, which goes well into mid-May, is for continued above normal temperatures. So it doesn’t mean it won’t cool down a little bit later this May but for we’re going to stay warm and summer-like for the next week or two, it appears.”

Small says that the benefit of the warmer temperatures will provide longer periods of sunshine. The Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage any time there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning in Dallas, Guthrie or Greene counties until the severe weather has moved out of the listening area or has dropped below severe levels.
