A chase in Jefferson Wednesday night led to an arrest.
According to the Jefferson Police Department, an officer was following a vehicle that was traveling in the 100 block of South Vine Street at 11:35pm. The vehicle turned west onto West Harrison Street and sped up. The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Nicholas Weber of Scranton, failed to stop at a posted stop sign at Elm and Harrison streets.
The officer activated their emergency lights and siren and a chase ensued. A Greene County Deputy assisted in the chase. The chase ended in the 500 block of North Vine Street, where Weber placed his hands out of the driver’s side window. He was then taken into custody without further incident.
During the chase, Weber allegedly threw a backpack out the window of the vehicle, which was recovered by the deputy in the 500 block of West Harrison Street. The bag contained sizable amounts of suspected marijuana, scales, baggies and other drug paraphernalia. Weber was arrested and charged with two Class D Felonies for possession of a controlled substance violation – distribution and eluding-OWI-drugs, an aggravated misdemeanor for his third or subsequent offense for possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor for his first offense for an OWI, and simple misdemeanors for nine counts of failure to obey a stop sign, excessive speed and reckless driving.
Weber was booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
