As the 2022 Iowa Legislative Session continues to be in a stalemate, a local state representative describes this issue as frustrating.
House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen says a factor in the legislature continuing after the date the session is supposed to end in April is because of the Senate’s inability to pass any of their budgets. Sorensen explains that the Senate has had plenty of time to address their budgets.
“But, you know, we’ve worked all session long with the intention of wrapping up within 100 days. It’s not a hard deadline. You know that’s the goal we operate off of and we try to be done. You know, we’re able to do that and give the Senate our budgets. And I personally think it’s time for them to get to work on those budgets.”
He says another hold up in the session has been the Governors Education Savings Account proposal that has been met with concerns from members of the House.
