Two high school seniors in Greene County recently received an honor for their academic achievements.

Greene County High School’s Veronica Johnson and Paton-Churdan’s Megan Palmer were among 419 seniors as their highest academic achievers for the Governor Scholar Award. These students were recognized as the highest academic achievers for their first seven semesters in high school. P-C Principal Annie Smith says Palmer is deserving of the award.

“The Governor Scholar really is like a culminating award I think because it really encases their whole high school efforts and Megan of course is a phenomenal representative. She has always worked so hard and academics have been so important for her. She goes above and beyond but I also think it’s really worthy to note that she takes definitely some of the most challenging classes and really has high aspirations for herself. And so it’s just really nice. It’s so good for, I mean the school obviously, but just for her and her family to be able to be recognized for those accomplishments.”

The program started in 2003 and is sponsored by the Governor’s Office, Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Farm Bureau.
