(L-R): Chief Nursing Officer Susan Moore, DAISY winner Sandra Stoneburner and Long Term Care Director Lori Harrah
Friday kicked-started National Nurses Week and Greene County Medical Center marked the occasion with its annual DAISY Award.
The award is given to a nurse that exemplifies extraordinary care. There were 11 nurses that were nominated by patients, patients’ families, and community members. This year’s recipient was Long Term Care Nurse Sandra Stoneburner. She told Raccoon Valley Radio why she chose to work in Long Term Care for her over 30 year nursing career.
“The people. That they need somebody. I mean not all of them have a family member that comes up and visits them. So it’s the staff they (the residents) look to.”
Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Heather Wilson was the guest speaker at Friday’s ceremony. She talked about compassion fatigue and stressed how nurses need to do self care in order to continue to perform their jobs and enjoy life.
The DAISY Award started at Greene County Medical Center in 2014 and nominations are accepted all year.
