A Scranton woman was arrested for alleged arson in Sac County.

According to court documents, on January 9, 2020 40-year-old Melissa Dopheide allegedly set a  home on fire at 124 Center Street in Wall Lake, with the intent of destroying the property. She was previously evicted from the residence and took her valuables out of the home before she set it on fire. She then reported to the insurance company about the fire and was paid over $45,000 under false claims. She further claimed her two-year-old child was exposed to danger when the toddler was with her during the fire.

Court documents show Dopheide faces other charges prior to the fire incident, where she made false claims in order to defraud a pest control company, as well as the court from another hearing that took place in December of 2019 and another hearing in April of 2020. Dopheide was previously charged with a felony for conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, which was dismissed in September of 2020. New charges were then filed this past April.

Dopheide is charged with Class B Felonies for first degree arson and ongoing criminal conduct – acts of specified unlawful activity, Class C Felonies for first degree criminal mischief, first degree theft – deception, Class D Felonies for three counts of perjury and fraudulent submission, and an aggravated misdemeanor for forgery. She was arrested in Scranton on Monday on warrants in Sac County and was booked into the Greene County Jail.
