The Greene County Historical Society is hosting its May program on Friday.

The presentation will be on the Greene County Archives in conjunction with the Greene County Libraries Association. Jefferson Library Director Jane Millard will be the guest speaker and will show how to use the digitized archives on the library’s website. The documents that are a part of the archives chronicle all of the newspapers of the county, going back to the 1856 U.S. Census of Greene County.

The program started in 2012 and has been done in two phases, with several grants and matching funds to convert the newspapers and other documents to digital and researchable online.

Friday’s free event will take place at the Churdan Public Library with a meal served at noon and the program to begin at 12:45pm. The meal will be served by the St. Columbkille Catholic Church for $10 and non-historical society members can reserve a meal by contacting Margaret Hamilton at 515-386-4408.
