A leaked draft opinion by the U.S. Supreme Court indicates that they could overturn the groundbreaking court case that deals with abortion rights.

The 1973 Roe v Wade case allowed for federal protections for women to get an abortion. Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Representative Randy Feenstra says the Supreme Court will examine the Dobbs v Jackson case in Mississippi where abortions were illegal after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The Republican from Hull shares his opinion about Roe v Wade and the possibility that the Supreme Court could overturn that case.

“A lot of things have changed since Roe v Wade. Technology has dramatically changed. So now we know that as early as just five weeks unborn babies are forming blood vessels, we know by ten weeks that they have pain receptors, by 15 weeks they have a heart and are pumping 26 quarts of blood per day. So that just tells me that there is life. And our Constitution simply says that we have the right to life, and that’s why to me I’m so passionate about this.”

Sources say if Roe v Wade is overturned, then abortions laws would be left up to individuals states, which Feenstra is a firm believers in states having control of this issue. He talks about when he was a state senator working on changing the state abortion law.

“I was part of the group that supported the heartbeat bill and that gives way to

The heartbeat bill in Iowa that was signed by Governor Kim Reynolds in 2018 was struck down in the courts as being unconstitutional to make abortions illegal when the unborn child developed a heartbeat.

Supporters of abortion rights say it should be left to the pregnant woman to decide what is right for her body and situation. The Supreme Court could make its decision by June or July.
