A new event is happening later this month in Jefferson that brings together people that want to learn from each other.
The Lyceum Movement is a place that allows adults to think, learn and talk with their neighbors, as deep questions are explored of what it means to be human. The organizations have locations in Iowa, Minnesota and Kansas and there are monthly events that include a panel of speakers, presentations and group conversations.
The inaugural Lyceum event in Jefferson will take place Thursday, May 12th from 7-9pm at PickAway Americana and Meeting House. The first theme will be about “What makes a place a home? What do we owe to the places that raised us? What is the importance of feeling at home and belonging in a place?” Dr. Philip Heisterkamp of Greater Life Health and Wellness will discuss growing up in Jefferson and his perspective of returning to build his business and raise his family in Jefferson. Dr. Susan Laehn of Iowa State University will speak about her life growing up in Kentucky and now calling Jefferson her home.
Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased on Eventbite website or below. Attendees can bring their own beverages or some, along with other snacks will also be provided.
