A non-profit organization is having a fundraiser that includes one of the most famous horse racing events this weekend.

Relay For Life Of Guthrie County invites the public to join them to watch the Kentucky Derby at the Owl’s Nest in Panora. There will be several activities many can participate in that include horse race betting, raffles and silent auctions, awards for the best hats and attire and drink specials will be offered. Committee Member Leslie Halsey says it’s exciting to have events like this back in person after not being able to hold fundraisers due to the pandemic. 

“You know, we were pretty much shut down as well after for two years the American Cancer Society has suffered through that time as far as getting money donated because we can’t hold fun events like this.”

The fundraiser will be on Saturday from 2-7pm and encourages folks to get a seat as early as possible. She states that there won’t be reservations accepted.
