Tree planting day with Greene Co 8th graders in 2019
The City of Jefferson was awarded another grant to continue a program to beautify and replace its natural resources.
The Jefferson Tree Committee received a grant from Alliant Energy to plant 40 trees across the city. Greene County eighth graders will join the Jefferson Tree Committee and Alliant Energy to plant those trees on May 4th. The eighth graders will help plant some of the trees in the city’s right of way on the west end of Harrison and Monroe streets from 8:15am to noon on Wednesday. Additionally, the tree committee will also plant some trees in Daubendiek Park to replace those that have died.
Trees Forever Coordinator Brad Riphagen ordered 40 trees with the grant from Iowa Native Trees and Shrubs by Luther, including Kentucky coffee, river birch, sycamore, native mulberry, two types of oak trees.
