As more candidates announce their bids for the Iowa House District 28, one candidate talks about their reasons for running for the open seat.

Tom Walton announced his campaign as a democratic candidate for Iowa House District 28 and Walton is currently the Director of Legal Services and General Counsel for Delta Dental of Iowa. Walton says he feels it would be more helpful to have more democratic lawmakers in the Iowa House.

“I just think it’s time for the republicans to start listening to all Iowans and I think it’s very helpful to have a sufficient number of democrats in the house so that we can put some brakes on some of these more extreme laws. Of course all of those affect folks in Dallas County.”

Walton tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are pieces of legislation that were passed in the last two years that he would like to see changed including various voting changes that Walton says need to be reversed like reducing the amount of time you can cast an absentee ballot. Walton says he also doesn’t feel that public money should be going to private schools which is another potential change lawmakers could make.

“So, those are some of the things that concern me and I’d like to be in a position to maybe bring some common sense back to the government and maybe they won’t spend so much time and energy on issues that really do not affect Iowans.”

Walton is vying to be the democratic candidate for Iowa House District 28 which includes Dallas County including Van Meter and Adel and parts of rural Dallas County.
