A new event at Greene County High School will bring together student accomplishments in the fine arts department.
The public is invited to a “Variety Show” Tuesday, May 3rd at the high school auditorium at 6:30pm. Organizer Darren Jackson says there will be several performances by the large group and individual speech contest pieces, highlighted by the all-state expository address given by Rym Gherari, a foreign exchange student from Tunisia, with a tongue-and-cheek speech of “Why I Hate Being A Foreign Exchange Student.” Jackson points out there will also be soloist performances from band and choir, along with student art on display as well.
Jackson talks about why he wanted to orchestrate a night to give these students the spotlight for the public to enjoy.
“For speech contest at least in Iowa, you work so hard and then you perform once, maybe twice. And so this was just a showcase to allow for more. I just wanted people to see a lot of the good speeches, and the good kids we had, and then along with band, chorus and the art work too.”
